Routine Title Length Checker
Type the inscription line by line and set the characters you will allow per line. Encore Trophy Studio's checker counts every letter, space, comma and quotation mark and flags the lines that run over. It is for drafting dance wording, where routine titles and division names are often long. The real fit is settled on a proof drawn at actual size.
Build your plan
Counts include spaces and punctuation. Character count cannot establish physical fit: font, script, layout, material and engraving area require a proof at actual size.
The decision behind a dance studio presentation
One award for an ensemble and one keepsake per dancer are different orders. Use the actual recipient roster for each routine, particularly when dancers appear in several groups. Decide whether repeated appearances earn repeated pieces or a single season recognition before totaling.
Keep with your brief: Routine title, ensemble roster, category and presentation sequence.

Visible characters per line, including spaces and punctuation; longest line compared with your chosen budget
A line marked within budget still needs a production proof. A narrow inscription area, a wide font, a logo beside the text or a different script can change the usable layout. Send the exact text together with the intended product and dimensions so those choices can be considered together.
How does a long routine title get stacked?
A competition director is preparing plates for the Dance Competition Trophy. One winning routine is Lanterns Over the Harbor in the Senior Large Group Lyrical division, and she first types the title and division together on one line. With a budget of thirty characters, the checker reports fifty-two, far over. She gives the title its own line: twenty-four characters, within budget. The division line, Senior Large Group Lyrical, comes to twenty-six and passes. Overall High Score, at eighteen, fits on a third line. She repeats the exercise for every overall winner of the weekend and finds two more titles that need their own line. She then asks Encore Trophy Studio to stack titles on all overall plates so the awards table looks uniform.
Check these details before using the result
- Shortening the choreographer's title
- Never trim or abbreviate a routine title yourself. Give it a second line, or ask the choreographer which short form she accepts.
- Checking the title but not the division
- Division names such as Senior Large Group Lyrical are long. Paste the longest division of the weekend as well as the longest title.
- Taking a pass as approval
- A line inside the budget can still look tight in a wide typeface. Wait for the proof before telling a studio the title fits on one line.

Recital Award
Decide whether the award recognizes an individual performance or the whole routine. A shared ensemble trophy can lead with the routine title, while individual versions give every dancer's name the same prominence.

How many characters fit on a dance trophy plate?
It changes with the plate width, the typeface and the letter height of each design, so there is no single answer. Use a character budget as a drafting limit and let the proof decide. Sending Encore Trophy Studio the longest routine title and the longest division of the event lets the layout be sized around those two lines.
Do quotation marks around a routine title count?
Yes. Every visible character counts, including quotation marks, commas, apostrophes and spaces. A routine title in quotes gains two characters, and an ampersand between duet partners counts as one. Paste titles exactly as the studio entered them at registration, since that is how the choreographer wants them read.

All buying guidesCurrent results are Pinterest boards, TikTok clips and short store blog lists. This page groups dance award ideas by technique, performance, growth, leadership, spirit and genre, gives each a kind engraving line with exact character counts and a matching Encore Trophy Studio format, and covers age-appropriate tone and why song lyrics stay off the award.
Write studio and teacher award inscriptions around an approved recipient, occasion and specific contribution, keeping appreciation separate from competition results and unsupported superlatives.
Build the recital count from unique approved recipients or approved performance entitlements, then keep show appearances and later handoffs in separate fields.
Count performers, routines and studio recognitions separately. Decide whether the award follows an individual dancer, a routine or the studio, then group the order by the presentation session. Keep the official category wording distinct from personal encouragement and teacher appreciation.
